Ring Container Technologies, a leader in the plastic container manufacturing industry, today announced that its BarrierGuard® OxygenSmart™ technology was honored by the U.S. Plastics Pact as part of its Sustainable Packaging Innovation Awards. The company received an honorable mention in the Recyclability category.
Ring’s BarrierGuard® OxygenSmart™ is designed to protect both product freshness and the environment. Among the strengths listed in the judges’ feedback, the technology was acknowledged for its compatibility with PCR and the fact that it is not detrimental to the recycling stream. Additionally, its breakthrough technology was said to significantly improve the category.
“Sustainability is at the core of everything we do at Ring, and this recognition from the U.S. Plastics Pact reinforces our commitment to that,” said Tim Ferrel, Vice President of Business Development at Ring. “We have consistently used innovation to steer our technologies to create packaging that uses less material and is fully recyclable.”
Through its Sustainable Packaging Innovation Awards, the U.S. Plastics Pact is showcasing businesses helping to keep plastic packaging in the economy and out of the environment and making progress on their four targets, all culminating in 2025.
Prerequisites for entering into the awards’ Recyclability category included meeting design for recyclability in U.S. systems. BarrierGuard® OxygenSmart™ has been Designated by How2Recycle® as Widely Recyclable with broad acceptance in curbside programs.
In all aspects of its work, the U.S. Plastics Pact aims to ensure that plastics never become waste by eliminating the plastics we don’t need; innovating to ensure that the plastics we do need are reusable, recyclable, or compostable; and circulating all the plastic items we use to keep them in the economy and out of the environment.
